Earlier on, Hong Kong Life Sciences Society (HKLSS) organized the Wuxi-Shanghai Study Tour and the GBA-Shanghai Study Tour concurrently for the first time. This year also marked the third year of co-organization between HKLSS and the HK Wuxi Trade Association. Held from 23 to 27 June, the five-day Wuxi-Shanghai Study Tour brought over 50 tour participants to visit a number of organizations and an academic institution, with the aim of attaining a deeper understanding of industry development, fostering academic exchange, and building valuable connections.
The Wuxi segment of the Study Tour offered an immersive look into cutting-edge innovation, with visits to leading organizations and platforms including Wuxi (Mashan) National Life Science Park, Boya Life, and Genetron Health. The campus visit took the talent to Duke Kunshan University (DKU) for a profound seminar with Prof Jianbo Yue, Professor of Biology at DKU, on cancer research in China, deepening participants' understanding of the ongoing developments shaping cross-campus research.
Through a welcome dinner in Wuxi, participants connected with industry representatives, gaining valuable advice into career pathways and the evolving regional ecosystems. Mr Jonathan Chong, Director of HK Wuxi Trade Association delivered his warm remarks to members to encourage continued exploration in Wuxi.
The tour converged with the GBA-Shanghai Study Tour in Shanghai, where all interns and tour participants had the chance to explore global innovation leaders and gain insights into the operations of China Innovation Center of Roche (CICoR), Roche Accelerator, and AstraZeneca. The stories of Hong Kong professionals who have made meaningful contributions to Shanghai’s pharmaceutical and innovation sectors highlighted the region’s abundant opportunities for aspiring talent.
Similarly, a dinner was held to connect members with HKLSS’ partners in Shanghai. In their separate remarks, Prof Ken Wong, Executive Director of HKLSS, and Ms Gladdy He, Member of the Advisory Board of HKLSS and Founder & CEO of Become Consulting. Ms He encouraged students to embrace the opportunities arising from the rapid growth of China’s life sciences and innovation sectors, and to remain open to cross-border career pathways in an increasingly interconnected industry.
