HKLSS Completes Full Circle of 7-Week Internship Program: Ceremony Reunites Nearly 100 Future-Ready Talent from Internship and Study Tours

Closing Ceremony 2026

Hong Kong Life Sciences Society (HKLSS) successfully closed the 8th cohort of its Summer Internship Program, with an even larger intake of 60 talents selected from a record-breaking pool of over 1,000 applications. The internship’s Closing Ceremony on 8 August reunited approximately 100 aspiring life sciences talents, including participants from the concurrent HKLSS Life Sciences Study Tours 2026, for a dynamic post-Study Tour and Internship exchange. Also in attendance were Dr Maggie Lo, Chief Manager (Life and Health Technology), Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, HKSAR Government (OASES); Professor Ken Wong, Executive Director of HKLSS; representatives from participating corporations; and distinguished guests.

Dr Maggie Lo stated that OASES’ vision is to cultivate a complete I&T ecosystem in the city – one that thrives not just on attracting great businesses, but on developing great talent. “By bringing global I&T enterprises to Hong Kong, we are creating the ultimate launchpad for the career development of our young talent.”

Unique 7-Week Internship Structure to Deepen Industry Understanding

The 2026 Program officially launched in mid-June with an Opening Ceremony. In the one-week prelude, interns attended an Orientation, followed by Study Tours from 23 to 27 June. The structure was designed to foster greater openness and exposure for members from the outset. Held in parallel for the first time, the Wuxi-Shanghai and the new GBA-Shanghai Study Tours bridged industry insight, academic exchange, and meaningful connections across vibrant biotech corridors.

Interns were placed with 30 companies in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen during the core six-week internship. The spread of employers includes a wide range of businesses in or related to life sciences, such as start-ups, venture capital firms, NGOs, healthcare, and bio-pharmaceutical companies. Cultivating local talent and attracting promising young professionals from overseas to Hong Kong are among the core objectives of the annual Program. The 2026 cohort welcomed interns mainly from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, with some from other parts of Asia and Europe.

Through hands-on experience, exclusive industry visits, and dialogues with sector leaders, interns gained valuable insights into the life sciences ecosystems across the three cities and explored diverse career pathways emerging at the intersection of cross-city collaboration, research and entrepreneurship.

Study Tours Converge in Shanghai to Encourage Exchange

In HKLSS’ 3rd year partnering with the HK Wuxi Trade Association, the Wuxi-Shanghai Study Tour provided fresh perspectives through new checkpoints in Suzhou and Kunshan, building upon the strong foundation of previous editions. Meanwhile the new GBA segment highlighted regional opportunities at leading organizations and innovation platforms, including HKLSS strategic partner, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone Development Co. in Hetao. The tours converged in Shanghai, where all interns and participants had the chance to develop a well-rounded perspective on MNCs operations, including those of Roche Accelerator and AstraZeneca.

As this year’s journey drew to a close, HKLSS remains deeply committed to nurturing and empowering young professionals to thrive through expanding partnerships with the industry.
